Window Caulking: A Presidential Initiative
When I read about the President’s call at the Brookings Institute for a Cash for Caulking program I must admit that I thought about his proposal with my “mouth agape”. I had to review my thoughts over a period of time to figure out if my initial reaction was the result of an early onset of senile dementia or some other failure of reason on my part.
Listening to his suggestions for job creation surrounding a national movement to caulk windows, my thoughts were that I must have missed some part of this proposal. It was hard for me to get my arms around the reality of our President talking to the nation about window caulk. Even with my sometimes critical stance about Obama proposals I was not ready to acknowledge that this proposal was as strange as as I initially thought. My thoughts were that I truly must have missed something since even the Obama people could not be seriously proposing to have the Federal government become involved in caulking my windows
Thinking about this for a week I decided that the dementia I was worried about with my thought process was not happening with me, but was occurring somewhere in the Obama administration. Whoever decided that the President should become a DIY consultant concerning issues of window caulk should be immediately identified and ferreted out of any decision making responsibility. Is there serious thought among Obama’s people that the Presidency of The United States of America should be involved with caulking my windows. Doesn’t the President recognize the absurd nature of his involvement in proclaiming that caulking windows will help create jobs of important levels in solving the unemployment problem.
It seems obvious that Obama is following the Jimmy Carter governance strategies.
There are a few Carter moves that are brought to mind by Obama’s recent pronouncements. Carter when taking over as President turned off the display lights at the White House as a first step in solving the energy problems facing America. Obama proclaims that caulking windows is a step in solving the energy, unemployment and global warming problems. We can all be happy that the President has expanded his recognition of our problems and is coming up with solutions that will attack several issues at the same time. Turning off the White House lighting is not a solution proposed by this President. Cash for Caulking is a more broad based answer being forwarded as action needed for all Americans to undertake.
Jimmy Carter as a “can do” President also demonstrated leadership by taking over the scheduling for use of the White House tennis courts. He did this when his staff could not handle this task without squabbling as to the courts use. Jimmy took over the weekly schedule of their use. This important use of Presidential time was thought to demonstrate the broad skill set Carter brought to the Presidency.
The current Obama activity is an obvious attempt to reach the Presidential skill level of the Carter Administration. We need to watch closely to see what important leadership activity that the President demonstrates to match the Carter, tennis court scheduling, skill set.
I am looking at Obama, Reid and Pelosi and the Congress and wonder if this is really still America. We will see if it is in 2010. In the election of 2008 we were totally bamboozled and as a nation made a huge mistake. We face an opportunity to start the correction process in November of 2010. The follow up is needed in 2012 and then the real work of America begins. That real work will be to reassemble America from the damages done by the most incompetent assemblage of people we have ever had governing our nation in modern times.

Hopefully he will become a very bad part of history in 2012. It will take many years to correct what this idiot and the Democratic Congress has royally screwed up if it can ever be fully corrected!
