Why The Secrecy Mr.President?
Prior to the Inauguration of the President there was a question raised by some as to the legitimacy of Obama’s Constitutional eligibility for the Presidency. The question was whether he met the requirement of being a natural born citizen. I found some of the arguments interesting but never for a minute thought that the inauguration would not take place. At the inauguration the natural born issue seemed to me to become a mute point and should be put to rest.
The question, however, seems never to go away and is again being raised by a Major in the Army as to Obama’s rights to act as Commander in Chief since he is not a natural born citizen and therefore is not a legitimate President. The issue was what greeted me on the local morning radio talk show today.( not a right wing show) I want to avoid thinking about what might happen if the Major was proven to be correct in his allegation. I doubt that his allegation will find legs.
The basic starting point of the question is the fact that no long form, hospital produced, birth certificate has never been seen by anyone. I might have a problem producing such a document myself since the hospital in which I was born has closed and where their records went is not known by me. I probably could find them if I was planning to run for President. I have no such current plan so don’t get excited about such a possibility.
My natural curiosity is always raised when these so called “Birthers” once again raise the issue of the Obama birth site. I wish the White House would put this whole thing to rest and address the issue. They instead have law firms fending off the efforts of the “Birthers” to get the question heard by some court. Obama has me excited enough with his legislative and economic policies. If he can, I wish he would take care of the birth issue once and for all so we are not distracted by these legitimacy issues. They are unlikely to be taken seriously by even a significant number Obama detractors and are now only an annoying background issue .
There are issues that he should address surrounding his background that contribute to the whole question of origin. The one item that makes me a bit paranoid is the secrecy surrounding his college career. When I was a real person and not just an obscure blogger I headed a company with offices in the U.S. and Europe. We were not a giant company but were big enough that I had to hire talented executives to manage complex activities.
When I was hiring a person to manage an important project or sector of my company I reviewed their capabilities carefully and checked references. One thing required was, that the candidate produce documentation concerning college activity. If the applicant had been to college, a college transcript was required in the package of application documents. I wanted to see what courses were taken and what results were produced. I wanted to make sure that the applicant knew how to do the job and had the education or training to do that job.
I never had an applicant with secret college results until our President applied for his current job. The President’s current job is working for me and you and every citizen. He is the person to whom we have given a 4 year contract to run our country. We don’t have the information on his background that I would have required to run a sector of my company. We don’t know what he studied, what his grades were, how he financed his education or any details of activity at Occidental or Columbia. This is very basic stuff that should not be secret. It leads to doubts and questions that should be honestly answered by our President. How did he take a Pakistan trip as a citizen in 1981 when citizen travel to Pakistan was banned? This is a question I heard raised by the Birthers.
I am not personally aware of how I would get to Pakistan at any time nor am I interested in that trip, but if the question about Obama’s trip has merit it should be answered.
The President is doing enough to upset me with his legislation . I don’t need additional angst over his legitimacy as President. Keith Oberman calling questioners names on his TV show is not the way to handle this issue. The White House must lift the veil of secrecy on those legitimate issues that we should know about. The President is on TV every day telling me something I should do. He could take a few minutes of his daily appearances to put these concerns to rest.
I almost fell out of the chair last night when I tuned in the All Star Game and there was Obama on the mound. I thought “ what a man!–the auto industry, the banks, health care, carbon emissions and now he is going to pitch the All Star Game.
I was a bit disappointed when I realized he was just throwing the ceremonial first pitch. I was hoping to see what kind of cut fast ball he threw.

Face it, he won’t answer these questions if those answers could lead to either (1) impeachment or (2) a failed re-election bid. What we don’t know can’t hurt him.
Also, seeing his ceremonial pitch, I am glad he wan’t in for a whole inning.
