Veterans Day 2009
Ninty one years ago on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month of 1918 The Armistice that ended World War 1 took place. That was the war that was going to end all wars. Somehow that didn’t happen. We now call this Veterans day to honor all the Veterans that have been created by the wars since that War to End All Wars.
It didn’t end any wars. It never ends and we have new veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. A further escalating war that is unrecognized by the media and the President killed 13 people last week and wounded 31. This continuing war initiated by radical elements of Islam took another action against America in the heart of our country at Fort Hood Texas. An individual person of the Muslim faith performed a personal Jihad as his contribution in the Radical Islamic war against the United States.
Our President in his commentary at services for the dead and wounded military personnel at Fort Hood made no mention of Jihad, Islam or the fact that the attack was like numerous others, committed by a member of the Muslim faith.
The continued failure of the President to speak on this issue with honesty is hard to accept. The media mimics the covering of the truth of the attack origins being taken by the President. In his speech the President obliquely referred to the attacks as having no religious sanctions.
I’m no expert or even a skilled amateur student of Islam but have been paying careful attention for several years. There are elements in Islam that say that the religion encourages killing of infidels who resist the advance of Islam in becoming the governing entity of all the world. I’m not going to get into a debate in which I in danger of losing any semblance of my gravitas in discussing the matter. There are things about Islam I know to be true and with that recognition the first steps that must be taken.
I know that America is being attacked by Radical elements of Islam. I want my President to acknowledge this truth as a first step in developing a strategy to counter the attacks. I further expect the still unspeaking, supposedly, reasonable elements of Islam to take steps against the hate filled members of their community.
I have no interest in hearing further from the apologists for the unspeakable behavior of members of Islam such as Nidal Hasan. If such atrocities are not part of Islam why don’t we hear from the imams of the faith making a strong outspoken denunciation of those acts.
The radical element of Islam, by any count, numbers in the millions. They have formidable strength of numbers and seem to be ready to use violence and murder as their strategy of proselytism. If there has been any doubt that danger is among us, Hasan has wiped away that doubt. What is the benefit to be derived by the Obama denial of facts.
I suppose I am somewhat of a dreamer to expect Obama to take action in this area of national danger. He is obviously unsympathetic to the military as evidenced by his recent dithering over Afghanistan troop levels. I wish I could feel that he was as interested in our troops as he is in protecting Islam from a having to make a useful response to their terrorist members.
