President’s Plummeting Polls
Rasmussen Reports indicate that among likely voters Obama has dropped below the 50% approval level. He now has a -10% rating. The rating indicates the difference between those that are satisfied with performance and those that have become dissatisfied.
The plummeting of the President in the polls is pretty much unprecedented for a President after only six months. It may be unprecedented but not unpredictable. We’ve never had a President in my life time that determined to change the American way of life and government in the first six months of the presidency.
Obama has demonstrated an ego beyond measure in these 6 months. His daily appearances on TV are tiring even his avid supporters. There is a daily demonstration of his lack of experience by his actions and words. We have an inexperienced amateur President and the public is finally recognizing that fact. He did not spend enough time in the minors learning how the game should be played and stepped into the Presidency with a game plan that was designed to change all the rules. His 150 days in the Senate was not long enough for everyone to understand the extreme level of his radical philosophy. That understanding is now spreading among the general population.
I admit that I may have been guilty of underselling the public in recent months. An experienced newspaper friend counseled me several times not to sell the public short. He said that America would gather reason and force sanity to return in the governing process. The polls now indicate that my newspaper friend was correct and the course of the country is being corrected. We are like a giant ship adjusting to a safer direction. We are not a sports car that can turn on a dime but the American public is making the needed turn.
There is hard work to be done to continue moving to a safe course of government. The evident first task is to find candidates for 2010 that will strengthen the legislative branch of government. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi need to be tuned to a new reality by reasonable additions to the Senate and House. They have been in control for several years and have had a role in creating the economic malaise in which we find ourselves.
A conservative voice needs to be reestablished in the halls of our Capital. The extravagant spending must be curbed. The reality of party allegiance will not disappear but fiscal sanity must become part of each party. The Blue Dog Democrats are a sign that there is a hope of allegiance between members of each party seeking to relate expenditures to income in government programs. The Blue Dog coalition was founded in 1995 and is currently receiving notice as the voice of reasonable restraint in reference to the outrageous Obama Heath Plan.
Among the Republican side of the aisle there needs to be a similar coalition of conservative thought. The last eight years found the Republican party wandering into a big government mode that elected Obama to the Presidency. The Nation was looking for a change but not the one we got. The expansion of government into every facet of our lives is not going to happen if the polls are indicating an awakening awareness as to the radical direction we are being taken by Obama , Nancy and Harry.
We are damaged as a nation but far from done. The politicians continuously sell the public short and in our history the public always has provided the answer when strength is needed. Last November the alternatives were not really that great. We need a “do over” and it needs to start now. Our demands of those Representatives and Senators we elect in 2010.must insist on a record of proven integrity and commitment to reduced government involvement in our lives.
Let us remember that this is supposed to be a government of the people, by the people and for the people. It is not one, of Obama, by Obama and for Obama
