Only Two Presidents in 50 Years?

by Buck on May 19, 2009

I was watching a presentation the other day which was discussing the Obama start on his term of office. Among the areas being discussed was the narrow rather than public interests that presidents have been serving for a number of years. The presenter said almost in passing said “the last President we had was John F. Kennedy”

I’ve been thinking about that for days. 1960 was the first presidential election in which I could vote and Kennedy got that vote. I met JFK at a rally in Philadelphia before the nomination. It is always impressive when a young man gets a chance to shake the hand of a potential President but it took more than a handshake to get my first vote ever for the Presidency.

Nobody in my family had voted for a democrat for generations. I heard my father after every mention of JFK reiterate that he was the son of a bootlegger who favored Hitler prior to WWII. My Dad was not about to favor a Democrat especially one with his family background.

I determined to make my own judgment but kept quiet about a growing admiration for John Kennedy. He looked like a president acted like a president and talked about issues in which a president should be concerned. He inspired dreams and had an understanding of the opportunities for ordinary people that America provided. Although highly intelligent his opponent did not have those qualities.

Kennedy did not make me a Democrat but after the election I quietly changed my registration to NP(no party). I still had to maintain a relationship at home since I was working for my fathers firm. I made the change so that I could freely judge whom I wanted to be my President without the party pressure that accompanied every election around my father’s home.

The naïve move to NP was before I understood that party trumps all other issues at an election. Other than Ronald Reagan the candidates and presidents in the years since Kennedy have not been Presidents in the mold of Kennedy, Eisenhower and Truman.
Regan was a special case and the exact man we needed after the the disastrous Carter years. Regan strode forth with a belief in America and our ability to overcome problems rather than living in the dark. Carter turned off the White House lights as his example of how Americans should live year in the future.

Harry Truman was the first President that I remember as a kid. He took a walk every day where ever he was. Striding down the street with a walking stick and wearing his straw hat in the summer he greeted everyone he came upon on his daily stroll. His motto to faint hearted associates was “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”. Eisenhower left us after 8 years of American growth with an admonition foreshadowing the future that we should beware the growth of the industrial/military complex. Kennedy saw the danger of the money control being independently held by the Federal Reserve and not by the citizens
The question of who should control and print money was raised by Jefferson hundreds of years ago. Jefferson warned of the danger of the money not being controlled by the people and how private banking interest could control our destiny.

John F Kennedy was working on legislation to take the financial control back from the Federal Reserve when he was assassinated. Most people do not realize that the Federal Reserve is not a government agency. It is independently controlled by the banking interests. This is a first step to understanding how trillions in TARP and other bailout funding is distributed without public governance of it’s use. It is not your money and it does not matter what you think or what Nancy Pelosi says. The Treasurer of the United States Ted Geithner was President of the NY Federal Reserve before his appointment as Secretary Of The Treasury. What kind of criticism or adverse comment concerning the actions of the FED can be expected from Ted Geithner?

We are in deep trouble and the current President has proven to be more than simply a charming guy. His has appointed a phalanx of banking and financial executives to a broad range of agency leadership positions. There is little doubt that popularity has moved the spotlight away from his most destructive moves concerning America’s future prosperity as to real benefits concerning the middle class.

We are in this state because we really have had only two Presidents in the last 50 years.
Kennedy and Regan. One a Democrat and one the iconic Republican. More important than their party was their belief in America and the people that make up this great country. Our current financial situation seems to be in greater control of the Wall Street financial interests with each passing day. The administration has joined the banking cartel to foster the growing control of greater and greater aspects of American life. There needs to be a general awakening as to the basic expansion of control being instituted by Pelosi, Reid and Obama in concert with the financial cartel. Once again when faced with great danger to our way of life, it will take another great generation of Americans to regain control of our destiny. It needs to start now with the first step completed in 2010
