Obama and Renewable Energy
Obama in a speech in Ohio some months ago beat the renewable energy drum by using Spain and other nations as leaders in the Green effort. He described their leadership to be the result of progressive government action to stimulate the great result they were having.
I have been trying to understand the movement towards renewable energy and Green initiatives that has attracted an almost religious fervor among advocates. There is no doubt that cleaner energy is a worthwhile goal and perhaps essential to our planets health. Not being an environmental expert, a politician or an oil man I need to use simple common sense and do some basic research into the statements of the President on the subject.
Obama has indicated Spain as a country that we should look to as a leader in the fields of renewable energy. I decided to check out Spain’s leadership role. I don’t think Obama did any checking because Spain doesn’t look like any renewable energy program that I want for my country.
An article in Power the official on line voice of the Electric Production Industry quoted a Study by Gabriel Calzaid Alvarez PhD an economics professor at King Juan Carlos University in Madrid. The study indicates that Obama has not done his homework on the subject or has some ulterior motives that I can’t understand.
Alvarez’s study showed that:.
“>Each Green Job created in Spain cost $774,000 as a premium paid for renewable energy.
Jobs created were mainly in construction, and initiation activities. Only 10% were of a permanent nature.
The renewable energy created by wind , solar and other renewable sources cost Spanish consumers $10 billion more than market cost
Spain spent 36 Billion to subsidize Renewable Projects
The energy rate would need to be raised 31% to repay the debt generated by subsidies
It doesn’t take much study to understand that the move to a renewable energy source is not going to work with Obama failing to address the problem with more than self aggrandizing presentations.
Clean air is one reason I live in the Rocky Mountains and to improve the air quality world wide is obviously desirable. Wind turbines and solar panels will not solve our problems. They are, however, desirable elements that make folks feel like they are contributing. Wind and solar will not power that Prius whether it is getting 25 or 75 miles per gallon. It will take a long time till oil is not our critical requirement to keep America running. Our electric needs will not be met by solar or wind. Nuclear power is the answer for clean electric production. The administration does not seem to recognize this obvious fact and spends time railing about coal instead of promoting a safe nuclear power expansion.
The Automobile industry, the banking and financial sectors are now essentially controlled by the Obama administration.
I wonder, are our power production industries his next objective for a government takeover?
