Looking Presidential—More than a Good Looking Suit
President Obama needs to do more than picking his suit for the day to make a presidential appearance. He needs to decide on some clear thinking that is not skewed by election type strategy.
Mr. President the election is over. You won. Bashing past policies will not help us today. The policies of the last eight years have contributed to our problem as have the various political decisions of the last thirty years . The public consists of your supporters and another 48% of the voting population which voted for your opponent. Remember your pledge to unify the nation with a new approach in creating e a bi- partisan atmosphere in your governance of all the people. We are all now waiting for the promises to start happening.
The Stimulus Bill is your first big test in fulfilling your promises. Take the bill and lead the Congress in passing a bill that contains immediate job creation elements. Fight over the political elements later .I must remind you that your party controls the whole government.. The Executive , the Senate and the House are all in your control. I understand that you are trying to ram through the Democratic Party interests as part of a Stimulus Bill since the Democratic seats in the Senate are not sufficient to invoke cloture. We are looking for transparency in our government and this is transparent as a strategy in Party interest over the needs of the Nation in our current economic situation. We expect more from you especially in your early days. You were elected by an enthusiastic majority of supporters who expected change and a new day in Washington politics. That support is in danger of rapid dissolution.
Those who are the loyal opposition may soon become less loyal after seeing the side of your personality shown in your presentation last night. It was not a performance demonstrating leadership qualities. It was the type of Pilosi presentation that invariably creates a larger chasm rather than closing the gap between Americans. I believe that the members of the other party are still Americans with certain rights to express differences of approach to problems.
I think the Stimulus Bill as presently configured will not work in any long term job creation result. Others feel the same. Think about it and figure what a leader should do with the bill to demonstrate an understanding that even when we disagree we are all Americans with rights for Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Mr. President after listening to the tone and content of your presentation I’m not very happy today.

I know I can count on a thoughtful trashing of Capitalism from Chris periodically. The problem is that he never reads to the last paragraph unless it is his and really isn’t fully in tune with economic reality. My suggestion to Chris is that he review my Posts and read to the last paragraph. Chris you know that if the President called as I suggested in a previous Post I would be there in a heartbeat with a team of experienced Capitalists ready to help him understand the way we work. None of the team would be seeking a job or public acclaim. I would make sure you are invited so you also could learn how it works.

I am not too worried about what government is doing (government is usually so inept that I can’t seem to find time to worry about it). I’m still in shock over the whereabouts of the Capitalists who seem to have gone AWOL just as the going got tough.
No one is asking the basic obvious question: why don’t the Capitalists, flush with their significant tax cut winnings and years of unprecedented corporate profits, step up to the plate to invest to fix our economy so that the government doesn’t get a chance to start its meddling? If industry can self-regulate, why can’t they propose an industry-financed economic recovery plan? So far Industry’s only answer to the economic crisis is massive layoffs and mergers (presumably to increase the chance that they will become “too big to fail” so that the government can bail them out too). If industry wants to preserve the tax cut and deregulation accomplishments of the last several years, they should be offering their own economic rescue plan so that governement can stay on the sidelines. Are the Capitalists too scared to put their skin in the game?
It seems that the Capitalists have taken their tax cuts to their offshore tax shelters and left America in the lurch … again. Just like they did in 1929: leaving a big mess that only governement can fix because the only other institution with the resources and power to fix it, the Capitalists, go AWOL at the first sign of trouble. I guess they are too worried about their net worth to be bothered with the suffering of the rest of us.
Of course, government is going to make big mistakes trying to fix the mess left by Capitalism’s cash heist shenanigans. The task is so huge that the feeble-spined Capitalists have run for the exits leaving government to flail about blindly searching for a solution.
Buck, why don’t you step up to the plate with concrete positive suggestions about what individuals or organizations including governement can do rather than these complaints about various government officials’ statements?
To start the ball rolling, I will hazzard one recommendation to government: if the Capitalists can’t be bothered to invest their accumulated winnings to help our economy in this time of need, then we should tax them at the 98% rate so that they can start seeing the world from the perspective of the rest of us and the goverment will not have to go into such debt to clean up their mess!
