Justice Department Torture Memos Released:
The release by Obama of correspondence concerning harsh interrogation practices used by the CIA has failed to include an important aspect of the whole subject. There were 3000 people killed in NY by terrorists about whom we had little information (intelligence). As a nation we were faced with a threat the likes of which we had never previously experienced. An example of our enemies was the terrorists that kidnapped a Wall Street Journal reporter and cut off his head while video taping the event for distribution on the Internet. The pregnant wife of this young reporter was subjected to this horror by enemies of America who have no understanding or concern for what is generally considered moral behavior.
The CIA and the Justice department discussed interrogation limits and that discussion being released for public view is an example of political callousness beyond my understanding. To give this information for the Democratic political grist mill run by Keith Oberman and his ilk is a despicable action which will weaken the CIA and our national security. The previous serious gutting of our intelligence capability was instituted by Jimmy Carter during his one term as President.
The President obviously has the prerogative to direct Federal agencies as to the standard of operation. The CIA is not exempt from Presidential direction. It would be useful if the President would start to use the intelligence he is supposed to possess in dealing with matters of National intelligence and the CIA methods used to obtain information. These discussions should be private and not a subject for debate on NBC. Now that Pandora’s Box has been opened by Obama, lets’ see all the contents. Let’s look at the results as a determining factor in judging the tactics used. The Obama release of the Justice Department memos is clearly a political move designed to assuage the lust for revenge constantly called for by his party “Know Nothings” in Congress. John Conyers will give us a headache with the drumming of his call for revenge. The effect on the intelligence community and the weakening of our nation’s safety has not been considered as part of this purely political drum beat
When does interrogation tactics cross a line to be classified as torture? This is the question that should be seriously considered behind a securely closed door by Administration officials and the CIA, with the goal being to agree on standards while protecting America from our greatest security challenge in many decades.
When I think of Danny Pearle and his pregnant wife and the horror performed by our enemies simply because he was an American and had the additional ‘bad fortune” of being born a Jew, I continue to be enraged. Does Obama, Conyers, Pelosi, Reid and their “Know Nothing” associates remember who Danny Pearle was and feel any of the rage that I am sure was part of the interrogators emotions as they sought information to protect Americans from this barbaric enemy.
The discussion of interrogation methods and the limits needs to be held by very special people with much more restraint than I would possess in those discussions.

Buck,
Great points, but I think you could have carried this to a conclusion as to the purpose. Obama has been touring the planet making apologies for our country. The release of these memos are now another thing he can apologize for and get another world tour. His goal seems not to be the security of our country, but the desire for the rest of the world to like us. The fact is, there are those who killed people like Danny Pearle and Nick Berg in greusome beheadings because they do not like us, regardless of who is President of the United States. This hatred has been around for thousands of years. Those who are our friends, will understand our need to defend ourselves. Those who will only like us if we do things their way or act the way they want us to act are not real friends. Hmmm, seems similar to a lesson I learned in elementary school.

Buck…. Another excellent article with which I fully agree. Thanks for sending them to me. Would it be correct to assume that you have not been asked to appear on CNN or MSNBC to express your opinions? Dick
