Fort Hood: A Jihad lesson

The tragic deaths and wounding of scores of fine young American military members at Fort Hood can be attributed in part to our growing stupid obsession with political correctness. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was recognized by many associates to have a disturbing attitude on the relationship between America and Islam.

The London Telegraph has interviewed fellow officers of Hasan who admitted that some of his statements of support for some acts of terror were unexpected from a Major in the U.S. Army. The reason given for failure to report his diatribes against American policies was that fear of being cast as anti Muslim was what restrained comment.

The FBI had information that Hasan was in contact with a former imam of a Virginia mosque that had contact with 9-11 participants. This imam now is in the middle-east preaching on the Internet calling for the deaths of U.S. military personnel. This contact information was evidently filed in the –nothing to worry about drawer- by FBI headquarters. It is not clear why the FBI did not express concern to the Army about Major Hasan. The FBI announced a few hours after the Fort Hood massacre that there was no indication that this was an Islamic terrorist attack

What kind of research in 2 hours led them to that conclusion? It was no doubt an announcement designed to appease Islamic fears of reprisal by some anti Islamic nut cases.

The nut cases comments are plentiful on all sides concerning the questions surrounding Jihad. This attack by Hasan was another example of Jihad performed against America and Americans by a singular Muslim Terrorist. We have had many such incidents going back to the attack on the El Al ticket desk at LA International International Airport back in the 60’s. Tonight the DC sniper who shot and killed at least 10 people is scheduled to be executed for his crimes. John Alan Mohammed was a convert to Islam and there is little doubt that his murder spree was a personal Jihad stimulated by Radical Islam.

9-11, the embassy bombings, the USS Cole and numerous other attacks are clear examples of radical Islam’s war against the United States. Not as dramatically reported are the successes of the FBI in preventing many other plots by radical Islamic individuals and groups to kill Americans.

Denver Airport had one of it’s shuttle drivers recently arrested when it was discovered that he was plotting a Jihad with a NY imam. The FBI discovered and foiled their plans.
In Cherry Hill NJ an FBI investigation discovered and foiled the plans of a small group of Islamic radicals to attack and kill military personal at Fort Dix in New Jersey. In Philadelphia the FBI discovered plans for violence being formulated in a local mosque. They raided and arrested the individuals involved in the planning. A similar success by the FBI in foiling plans for Islamic terrorist attacks was recently reported in Boston. I am confident that there are many other such FBI successes that have not been reported

President Obama has proclaimed that we are not at war with Islam. That may be the way he looks at it but elements of Islam are certainly at war with America. The media as well as well as moderate Islam are compliant participants by ignoring the fact that this war is an immediate, growing serious threat to our country.

The reporting of events involving Islamic participants spends so much time tipy toeing around the Islamic identity of the participants that most people are not aware of possible connections to radical Islam. There is no doubt that concerns over offending Muslims skews the reporting of suspected radical motivation

The media avoids reporting and the apologists, spring into action denying the obvious Islamic involvement in the attacks on America. The broader Islamic community has not had a reasonable response to this element of their community. Everyone with a brain understands that most Muslims are not running around blowing up subways and flying planes into tall American office buildings. The fact is that, young radical Muslims are committing those acts. They, as well, are the individuals strapping bombs to their bodies and blowing themselves and innocent shoppers in middle east countries into small pieces of body parts. Such radical behavior is hard (perhaps impossible) for us to understand..

The apologists jump on those who mention Islamic connection with terror and counter with examples of non Islamic acts of terror (Oklahoma City). The problem with their argument is that the Oklahoma bombing was perpetrated by deranged individuals without religious motivation. The same thing goes for those individuals going postal or seeking vengeance for getting fired. Random insanity is not what we are dealing with in the areas of Radical Islamic terrorism. The Islamic Terrorists are focused, usually pretty intelligent and are people without poverty as a motivator. If, as I suspect, most of Islam consists of reasonable people who don’t want their kids blowing themselves and others to pieces, how about a little help from those Muslims on these issues.

The FBI has it’s hands full. Islam needs to step up and counter their radical elements. Don’t waste my time telling me that Sharia law has a place in America. It is clear that Sharia had early concepts similar to common law which was the basis of our law. It is interesting but not needed to be of more than an area of scholarly interest. Those few Mosques that are promoting Jihad, calling for Sharia Law and promoting the issues of violence against America need to be countered by the, oft mentioned, many millions of peaceful Muslims. Most of the Muslims that are making headlines these days are not acting in a very peaceful manner.

Political correctness and sensitivity seem to be less important when our nation is under attack by members of a segment of our population to whom we are being politically correct. Forthright honest appraisal is needed by agencies, politicians, the media and concerned citizens. President Obama, it may not be easily recognizable, but it is a real war.
