Does Truth Matter
The Birthers are in court today in California. They have a birth certificate from Kenya that supposedly proves that the President does not meet the Constitutional requirement of natural birth to serve as President.
The birth certificate being used has the look of a fake document to me. What qualifies me to judge? Nothing, other than some common sense. The court case is an attempt to get the court approval to proceed with Discovery of the facts concerning the issue of the President’s place of birth. Federal lawyers have been designated to appear in court to oppose any ruling allowing Discovery to take place. This is the part I do not understand. If there is no creditability to the Birthers claims , why oppose Discovery?
It has come to light that there has been more that $1,000,000 spent by the Presidents supporters to keep the issue out of any court where the Birthers have sought to have their case heard. The California hearing today is another such attempt.
Without getting deeply into the various political interests involved I have an interest in hearing the truth in the issue. The truth is being shoved aside as an important issue by Obama supporters who continue to lampoon the Birthers as a bunch of “nut cases.” There is a continuous dismissal of the issue as not being important by various prominent media commentators.
I have a more simple issue that needs to be resolved in this case and other issues moving forward. Does the Truth Matter? It seems that various Administration spokespersons have determined that truth is no longer the issue. They say that the people voted, Obama received the most votes and that ends the issue. I don’t think that is the case.
The truth does matter! Denigrating the Birthers does not address the truth issue. The truth is often pushed aside for political advantage by both sides in the conflict over Obama’s Constitutional legitimacy. If the Constitution requirement is an issue, there needs to be a finding that determines truth. If discovery of the truth is denied by the collective interests supporting the Administration, the Constitution is threatened as our governing document.
This view may not meet the standards of the court that is hearing the case today but is seems to be a very possible result of the basic issues being contested. There is always an old saying that can be used in every issue of importance. The truth often hurts, is one that springs to mind. Are Obama and his supporters willing to spend another million dollars to avoid the truth because, if known , it would hurt?
I sure don’t have an answer but would feel better if a court allowed the truth to be ascertained, wherever a finding of that truth it took us.

Who says that “the hospital and doctor info… is required?”
The only constritutional requirement is that the President be a native born citizen. The COLB he has provided proves that. It doesn’t have any specific requirements about doctors or hospitals. That’s your interpretation, not the Constitution’s.
Why oppose discovery? Easy: IT IS UNNECESSARY. Obama’s proven what he needs to prove; sorry that the birthers don’t like it. I don’t like that President Bush invaded Iraq, either, but I have to accept it.
If the issue was simply that discovery was unnecessary I think Obama’s team would be eager to say, “you checked all the documents and came up empty” but that is not the real issue. Anyone who has been through corporate litigation understands that the issue of discovery is not the truth of the documents or even the truth of the issue at hand. The problem with discovery is the potential damage done by other documents that can be found and used against you that are not even relevant to the case at hand. Very little in politics stays a secret so anything found could be leaked to the media (mainstream or alternative).
If this were Bush or anyone else I would still not support discovery. The birth certificate was validated by the current government of Hawaii and that should end the issue.
There are so many other worthwhile issues with which to pursue Obama. He has said to unions that he favors a single payer healthcare system, but said to the general public that he does not. I would rather see the effort placed on showing how he tells two stories all the time. That would diminish the trust people have in him and prevent him from passing inappropriate legislation.
Heath, No Birth Certificate has been produced. No records of citizen renewal after the Indonesian period has been produced. No college records are available. No record of legal activity in the law practice is available. There is a question as to whether having a foreign citizen as a parent can qualify an individual as being natural born.
I don’t have an answer to the questions but if the Constitution and truth mean anything there needs to be discovery to settle the basic question of qualification.
yesterday a Federal Judge in California agreed with me and set some hearing and trial dates on these issues. Discovery is involved in these current proceedings
“No Birth Certificate has been produced.”
Yes, it has. Be honest. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html
“No records of citizen renewal after the Indonesian period has been produced.”
None needed. No evidence that Obama was ever an Indonesian citizen. And Obama was a young minor when he returned to live with his grandparents in Hawaii. He would have had to specifically renounce his American citizenship after his 18th birthday for him not to be an American citizen.
“No college records are available.” So what? That has nothing to do with the constitutional requirements for President. It’s nice that you’re inquisitive, but quite frankly, who gives a crap what you think?
“No record of legal activity in the law practice is available.” Again, so what? Not required.
“There is a question as to whether having a foreign citizen as a parent can qualify an individual as being natural born.” No question whatsoever; the citizenry of a parent only matters if the child is born overseas. If the child is born in the U.S. s/he is a native born American citizen. (That’s why rightwingnuts like you have such a problem with so-called “anchor” babies.)
In other words, Uncle Buck, you are clueless. But don’t despair: all the birfers are.

One million dollars of obama’s and now the DOJ on the case. All to keep the public from seeing a birth certificate.
But he has nothing to hide. That’s what his sycophants in the media are selling at the same time they’re calling birthers a bunch of nuts.
Another problem we face is that if we get to see the bc, it will probably show one of two things. Either the hospital and doctor info that is required, or an affidavit.
So, the best that we can hope for is an affidavit, which the media will then proceed to tell us is the end of the story, and anyone that doesn’t accept it is a nut. Right back where we started from.
