Dance The Pelosi: A New Congressional Requirement??

Since the Presidents speech the other night I have been trying to gather my thoughts to make some cogent comments. This has been the first time since writing the Blog that I have had serious difficulty focusing on the subject. When I go to You Tube to review the content of his speech my thoughts are diverted every time by his leading cheerleader bouncing to her feet every other sentence. Nancy Pelosi once again could not resist antics that detracted from the serious attempts of Obama to rally the nation .

I am not sure whether the Pelosi appearance needed pom poms or a party hat and horn to compliment her background performance to the speech. She and Biden need to get their dance steps coordinated. It seemed that they were hearing different tunes. Nancy in her exuberance seemed to barely resist throwing her arms in a victory V while chanting, Hit them high Hit them low come on Barack lets Gooooooo!

I am glad that the President speaking to the House and Senate is only a once a year thing. I don’t think I could take the “Nancy show” more than that. Oops, I almost forgot it was the Obama show . I guess someone didn’t clue Nancy into the proscribed routine that the Speaker of The House is really supposed to have an appearance of support, without distracting from the star performer.

As I have previously indicated I am impressed with the President’s attempt to rally the nation with his presentations and obvious commitment to getting a dialog going with the opposition. He made an important and telling comment when he said that “ there is no one in this chamber that doesn’t want the best for America. The differences are in the beliefs as to how that can be achieved” That is my rough remembrance not his exact words but the sense of his thought was clear. Differences of approach should not erase the understanding on both sides of the aisle that the goals are the same in the hope for America’s rapid economic recovery. Nancy’s dance steps and cheering distracted my note taking at various times in the presentation but I got his message.

The President has finally demonstrated that he knows how to give a presentation of hope as President. That is what he did constantly as a candidate. Recently he has been talking about the inherited crises a little more than I care to hear. I understand that we are in economic bad times. I want to hear the details that will lead to our recovery. His plan is now being laid out for us to consider. I’m not exactly sure that I understand how we do all that he proposes and reduce the deficit by half in 4 years. If his administration knows how to make that work he has better helpers than I suspected. I wish I had whomever can put together a financial plan to pull this off as my CFO when I was running my company.

For now I’ll be content that his speech only resulted in another 80 point drop in the DOW. It seems that when Fed Chairman Bernanke gives one of his dismal funereal presentations we can expect several hundred points to disappear from the DOW average . I guess this contrast signals a first step in our recovery

Do the Nancy Pelosi Two Step. Take one little itty bitty step to the right, then two great big giant steps to the left, and the woman gets to lead.
