Bubble Bubble Toil and Trouble
HOW CAN WE SURVIVE?
Reading the papers and watching television these days can be depressing to even the most optimistic members of our society. If you believe the media slant put on the current financial situation 1929 would seem like a walk in the park.
Lets analyze things for a moment. Do you think that your 52 inch flat screen Sony is going to go blank? Will walking an extra 2 blocks to find a Starbucks that has survived their current corporate cut back be a true hardship? Did Starbucks really believe that we needed an outlet within arms reach at every moment of our lives. What kind of crazy world are we living in when General Motors, Ford and Chrysler need you and me to help finance their survival. Times may get tough for a while but we have the strength as a people to move out of this current financial malaise(mess) If we can bail out the auto industry maybe we can figure out how to bail ourselves out of trouble.
I thought I was helping by buying a Jeep a few weeks ago when my wife was pushing for a Toyota, which arguably might have been a wiser choice. Our purchase was not quite enough help to straighten out Chrysler’s problems. A few months ago the AIG ads on TV were touting their expertise in managing money. Now they need billions from you and me to survive.
I hope anyone reading this understands that it is you and I that are financing the misadventures of government and large companies in the current economic nuttiness. The government does not produce our economic well being. You and I with our individual and collective efforts produce the wealth of this nation. The government combined with the avarice of powerful investment entities has subverted the energy of self fulfillment activity that has weathered the financial storms of decades past.
The problems of the moment will once again be righted by clear thinking Americans such as Heath Suddelson. Heath dropped me a note from his current temporary assignment in Chile.
In a piece of clear thinking Heath stated in his note; “ Our national economic issues are not going to be solved by Barak Obama and Congress. Our national economic issues will be solved when Americans on the whole stop accepting that living in personal deficit spending is normal. If each American focused on their own financial health and stopped thinking that the government would somehow bail them out, we would see the change that everyone keeps talking about.”
Heath believes the answer is to, “take responsibility for yourself and your family”
What an astonishing concept! “Taking personal responsibility for yourself and your family”
Where does he come up with such ideas. We need to ponder this for awhile.
I somehow have a feeling that I will be quoting Heath from time to time
