Birther Questions
When it comes to the Obama defenders on the birth certificate question I am reminded of a line from Hamlet. “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” Reworking the line a bit : The defenders doth protest too much, methinks.
I have been interested but not excited about the Obama birth certificate issue for a number of months. I figured that Obama would show up a a press conference with a real Birth Certificate that was not a Certificate of Live birth or some other similar illusion to take our focus off the absence of a real birth certificate.
I was completely confident that someone would take him aside and remind him of Nixon and Watergate, or the Clinton/ Lewinsky experiences which didn’t go away once opponents got hold of the issues. I figured that they would go search for the real birth certificate and find it or come up with a real excuse why one was not available. Maybe a building with records burned down or maybe someone would burn a building down that had records stored. I was sure that they would do something. Maybe it would be a dumb or semi-criminal act, but not simply to expect stonewalling the issue to work.
I never really thought much would come of the issue even though some of the original Birthers had interesting theories surrounding the birth question. It seems that I was falling into a trap of simplistic thinking. No one would ever try to deceive America on such an important point of qualification on the native birth requirement to be President(I thought). The question is raising to a higher level of concern because of the actions of the Obama defenders.
Rather than addressing the birth certificate question they are attacking the Birthers and seeking to discredit them as a bunch of loony people. I’ll give the Obamanistas some good, though unsolicited advice. Change your tactics immediately. I guarantee that there are many, many people like me that were curious but not too focused on this issue. The Doonsbury Cartoon strip depicting the Birthers as nutty people attracted my attention. Hearing that the CBS billboard division prohibited the posting of “Where is The Birth Certificate?” billboards and then was followed by Lamar Billboards ordering a similar prohibition on their signs was like waving a red flag in front of my eyes.
“Something is Rotten in the State of Denmark” came to mind followed by the “protest too much” quote. I have been digging into the actions in support of Obama and they seem to consist completely of attempts to discredit the questioners and not answer the billboard question “Where is The Birth Certificate?”. The bumper stickers and T-shirts are next and Obama is in real trouble if the question isn’t soon answered.
As an undergraduate I majored in history. The lesson of history is that political activist groups like the Birthers are energized by a campaign designed to denigrate their activity, while leaving their question unanswered.
These people will not go away and the Obama supporters activities of denial are causing many to join in the question being asked. I am bewildered as to why the answer to “Where is The Birth Certificate ?”is not given by the President on one of his daily appearances on TV or at a press conference.
Let’s remain focused on 2010 as our first priority for the change needed, while keeping an eye on the Birthers and Obama’s response to their concerns.

Diogenes,
If so many Americans are concerned, the real question is: why doesn’t the President produce a long form certificate and shut the Birthers up. These folks are Americans asking their President to answer a simple question. Where is the Birth Certificate?
I understand that you firmly believe in the President and his plan to change America into something he and his Statist administration envisions. If he stays until 2016 he, with the support of folks like you, will probably will enact a President for Life Amendment
He supplied what he needs to supply: a legal birth certificate that established the fact that he was born in Honolulu. It says, right at the bottom of it, that “This copy serves as prima facie evidence of the fact of birth in any court proceeding.” Sorry that YOU don’t feel like that’s enough but, quite frankly, who cares what you and the birfers feels? The President of the United States doesn’t have to jump through every hoop set up by some dumbasses who can’t (or won’t) read.
I have to agree that when the State of Hawaii certified the authenticity of the birth certificate that the issue died for me. I would much rather focus on Obama’s actions in office than his birth certificate because the more he does in office the more he turn off the “average American” who does not want “national health care” or a government run auto industry.

The way to win in 2012 is to show Obama’s plan for what it is. Socialism.

The answer’s already been given, but the birfers (and you, apparently) just don’t LIKE the answer, so you keep it going.
The Certificate of Live Birth is what the State of Hawaii would send you, if you had been born in Hawaii and asked for a copy of your birth certificate. They don’t photocopy the long-form certificate, even if the long-form still exists.
All this is is a bunch of absolute ultrarightwingnut nitwits who are looking for an excuse to get rid of a President they didn’t vote for.
Too bad, you’re gonna hafta wait for the next election. But, if you don’t want to be sorely disappointed again, I’d start looking ahead to maybe 2016 if I were you.
