Bipartisan Job Bill? Forget it!
The President has made a political move in calling for Republican cooperation in writing a Jobs Creation Bill. He has stated that bi-partisan efforts will be the way to succeed in writing the bill to create job growth.
To this end he invited Republican Congressional leaders to the White House to signify his determination to create an atmosphere of cooperation under his leadership. When he had 60 votes in the Senate and the ability for cloture to be put into the debate on an issue, no such hospitality was offered.
A few items to remember includes the fact that during the Health Bill debates no Republicans were invited to the White House to discuss any compromises. Harry Reid had the needed 60 votes to act without Republican input and this is the course he took The meeting in the White House was the first time Republicans were permitted into the Obama sanctuary in more the 2 months, unless they joined an escorted public tour group.
It is obvious that the Democrat defeats in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts have sunk into the “Progressive” brain trusts as something to be addressed. No doubt Rahm Emanuel used a few colorful politically incorrect descriptions of the situation to get the Presidents attention on the subject and outlined a strategy.
That strategy is to throw the Republicans a bone that will lull them into a, once again, somnolent state before the 2010 elections. The administrations first task is to insure that Harry and Nancy remain in leadership positions in Congress.
The President and Senator Schumer are “of a sudden “ talking tax cuts and credits to benefit small business. I can feel the relaxation taking place in Republican ranks at the sudden conversion of the President’s thinking to a seemingly more moderate economic position.
I am examining the road to Damascus to see if there is evidence of any recent conversions taking place there when prominent Democrats were passing along on a political junket. I demonstrated by my search that “hope springs eternally in the heart of man”, but sad to say, there was no sign of an Epiphany taking among the Democrats.
The Statist strategy has been clearly laid out over decades. They have always been willing to take a step back to maintain continued progress towards changing America into a government controlled fascist state.
I heard someone say that there is a seven letter word that describes a government working towards combined public /private control of the economic machinery of a nation, The seven letter word is fascism.
When Orin Hatch sits down to discuss the Jobs bill with Chuck Schumer I wonder if Orin and long time Republican office holders completely understand their part in causing our nations distress. Their compliant agreement through the years to Statist offers of bi-partisan legislation, have step by step eroded our strengths, our freedom and our future.
The Classics have lessons from which the Republicans could learn.
Sophocles said: “ I find the ancient proverb true. Foes gifts are no gifts’; Profit bring they none.”
Later, Virgil in Book 2 of the Aneid said;
“Whatever it is, I fear the Greeks even when they bring gifts.”
The Trojans lost Troy to the wily Greek Army. I fear the Republicans like Troy will take the offered gifts from Obama and Schumer and lose our country to the Statists.
I think the path for the future can be easily found if our leaders looked a bit into the past and found the lessons that are available when a bit of history is studied.
