Biodegraded Oil

by Buck on July 28, 2010

Where has the oil in the Gulf gone? This is the headline question in the news. Experts have indicated the nature and biodegradation are taking care of the oil problem. The only surprise is the rapid rate that the biodegradation is taking place.

If you are a Gulf Coast oyster fisherman with your oyster bed covered with oil the biodegradation is little comfort since income in the near future is in grave jeopardy. The individual damages cannot be ignored while excitement over rapid improvement is the news story of the day.

There is a need for some serious reflection on the whole story of the last 3 months and where the greatest economic damage is taking place. “Evil oil” has been the media reported culprit and the administration eagerly has been trumpeting the need for non fossil answers to energy needs.

The media depiction of oil flowing with predictions of the oil rounding the Florida Keys and settling on the beaches of the East Coast has sent an early chill on beach communities Tourists have pictured their favorite Gulf State beaches covered with oil and littered with wildlife killed by the oil. Not a pretty site on which to spend vacation dollars.

The over stating of damage by the media has probably cost more to some beach communities than will ever be done by the oil. Many of the Gulf resort areas have almost no tourists this year and also have no oil on their beaches. There is no recovery from income lost on a summer day. The summer will soon be over and no summer days will be available to earn tourist dollars till next summer.

The question on the table at this moment concerns the 20 Billion dollars that BP has deposited to take care of damages caused by the oil .spill. 20 billion dollars can solve a lot of dead oyster pain. It can pay for a lot of beach hotel vacancies and for picking up those annoying tar balls on the sand. Wisely used, 20 billion dollars can go a long way to making the Gulf states whole and economically on the road to recovery.

There is however one problem. The money is controlled by Obama and his minions. If there is anyone who can twist the use of the money away from reasonable recompense to the damaged businesses and the oil soaked areas, it is Obama.

20 billion dollars seems like a lot of money at first glance to most people. To a bunch of politicians, most of whom never worked for living this represents more than reparations to the damaged area. This will be a slush fund for reelection. Obama cannot figure out this use of billions by himself. He and Rahm are like lottery winners with money dumped into their lap without restrictions. They are grinning from ear to ear and the smiles are about November and how the money can be use to maintain control of Congress.

They love the thoughts of biodegradation taking place. That means more money will be available for their use in the election campaigns. I can hear part of the discussion. “Rahm, how can I take credit for nature’s solutions unless my divine rights are firmly and finally established?”
