Barack Obama- Perhaps A New Sun King?

by Buck on April 1, 2010

Barack Obama with the passage of the Health Care legislation has taken a major step toward absolute rule of the United States by the Federal Government. He is following a modern version of the control strategy followed by Frederick The Great, Louis 14th and Peter the Great in Prussia, France and Russia. Absolute Rule became the norm in Europe in the 17th century. Obama or Rahm must have taken a European History course somewhere along the way and decided that Louis 14th had some strategic ideas they could use in a drive to gain complete control of America.

Jean Bodin was a philosopher in France who wrote extensively in the late 16th century. Bodin wrote controversial texts which often had him in trouble with the church from time to time. His thoughts on sovereign majesty were a precursor to the 17th century moves to Absolute Rule by the sovereign rulers of the major countries in Europe

Bodin wrote his Six Books of the Republic concerning the majesty of kings and sovereign princes in which he said, “the principal point of sovereign majesty and absolute power was to consist principally in giving laws, dictating laws, onto the subjects in general without their consent.”

Obama has taken lessons from the period of Absolutism that followed the earlier thoughts of Bodin. During the 17th century rulers of major European countries took various steps to move their powers of rule to a level of Absolute Rule. Municipal privilege and local rule which existed throughout Europe was eroded and replaced by a bureaucracy appointed by the sovereign ruler. Municipal privilege was an impediment to Absolute Rule and needed to be wiped out. State organizations and independent elements of commercial organizations such as the Hanseatic League were targets of sovereign rulers.

Our President has a greater understanding of history than I have previously given him credit. States Rights, local municipal privilege and individual rights are the modern examples of conditions that are obstacles to obtaining absolute power by the current leadership. We now have a clear view of the intent being demonstrated in congress to diminish States Rights and our individual rights that were designed to protect us from an oppressive Federal Government.

The sovereign powers of the mid 1700’s in Europe made individual deals with the nobility to obtain their Absolute Rule. Our current leader has recently demonstrated a modern example of gaining control by making individuals deals with our nobility- Senators and Representatives. The nobles of 400 years ago sold out the population to the sovereign to maintain their individual personal perquisites. Our current nobles in Congress following the dictate of Obama sold out the vocal, dissenting, popular majority of opposition, in passing the Health Reform Bill. They together have as Bodin, nearly 500 years ago, advocated; “dictated laws, onto the subjects in general without their consent.”

Obama, our current Sun King made individual deals with various Representatives followed the tactics used by Louis14th to solidify Absolute control. Louis compelled 10,000 of France’s noble elite to live around him in residence at the Palace of Versailles. He centralized the government and was able to quell any independent moves by the nobility.

Control from DC is the tactic that Obama is successfully mimicking in his drive to create a Statist America

He has his plan in high gear. Think about the control he has gained in just a little more than a year. Banks and the Financial sector- the Automobile industry- the Health Care and health insurance business. Unelected Czars have been appointed throughout government controlling vast areas of governance.

Coming will be the immigration legislation designed to give Obama an unstoppable majority of indebted voters. This will then pave the way for elimination of presidential term limits.

There is an old saying that, “if you don’t know history you are destined to repeat it”
Obama has us on track to a modern version of the governing tactics of Frederick the Great, Peter the Great and the one who seems to be his personal guide, Louis 14th, The Sun King of France.

The end of the old saying might be accurately changed from destined to doomed.

Credits; Dr. Albert Gendebien was an inspirational teacher of European History at Lafayette College who was responsible for waking up whatever intellectual curiosity cells I possessed. Until my first class with him they had been hiding somewhere in a dormant state. Gendebien provided a base of history that I still refer to frequently.
Dr. John Merriman in his outstanding Open Yale Course, on-line, History of Modern Europe, refreshed memories of Dr. Gendebien’s teaching of 50 years ago.

I claim no support for my conclusions from either of these outstanding Professors. They share a bit of responsibility from their presentations that have impressed me at each end of a fifty year span of time.
