Auto & Airline Woes Being Addressed
Now that the politicians have got their record breaking Stimulus bill in shape we can all relax and wait for the results to send us all to new levels of prosperity.
Hardly likely to happen because of the Stimulus Bill, but with the distractions of political debate now resolved for the moment, individual initiatives can start the “Real Stimulus” to overcome our current economic malaise.
I received the first indication of forward movement in the mail today. It was an invitation to attend a seminar that would teach me how to take advantage of the: BAILOUT BONANZA. The caps in bold were part of the flyer I received.
The Bill is not quite passed and there are already initiatives in the private sector designed to use proposed government initiatives as the basis for a new business model teaching small business to share in the bailout bonanza. This is a “grab hold” of opportunity example that we often see when people are in trouble and need guidance. I have no idea whether these folks can help anyone but they think they can and are starting a business to address what they perceive as a market need.
There are other more sophisticated initiatives addressing needs of various industries to move out of outmoded sales models into new approaches. You will find a new approach to the dealer sales problems faced by the auto industry designed by a new company using a new approach using sales software for selling cars. Check out FOSAUTO.com and see why they are attracting the attention of very major companies. I wouldn’t be surprised if these young guys and their business management team turn out to be another Amazon or Google story. They were smart enough to identify and address a major auto industry problem before the industry itself found a potential solution to the outmoded sales structure they are using. They in addition have attached their talent to an experienced auto executive to lead them in dealing with the industry. This is a team to watch and maybe see them help solve some of auto’s problems
The first indication that airlines have a chance to recover was news last week. Frontier Airlines announced a profit for the final quarter of 2008. They made a $1,000,000 while still in bankruptcy. They took charge of their business in the last year and restructured fares into a attractive alternative to the usual business model. I understand that wholesale adjustments were made internally that cut costs in areas that do not affect their excellent on time performance record. Maybe other airlines can learn something from Frontier. There has never been any question that the people flying and maintaining the planes know what they are doing. Frontier may be the first indication of an airline management team that has learned how to manage their business.
With the attention diversions of elections and political arguments concerning how much debt to lay on my grandchildren now over, the real generators of solutions can go to work on finding real answers.
I will be researching examples such as those being demonstrated by FOS and Frontier. There are plenty of others who will be working through the recession on new and important examples as to why capitalism is still the best model we have for economic progress.
Note added Sunday February 15th
My post concerning the airlines excellent maintenance and flight skills was written before the tragic crash in Buffalo of the Continental Connection flight. The crash does not alter my comment as to the excellent flight record of the airline industry but the timing of my post certainly is something I regret. The overall great safety record means little today to the families and friends of those victims. My thoughts and prayers are for everyone of those passengers and those that loved them.
